LOG:
16:51 GMT - I'm leaving the base with the best disguise
available; that of an unarmed civilian. I've got to find a better
way to carry a camera with me, and hopefully find a way to do it without
velcro.
16:55 GMT - Hmm... This bike needs to be repaired or it will definitely fall the fuck apart in the near future. The map is pretty bad too - there are a lot of bigger paths around here than the ones on the map.
17:01 GMT - I think I've found where the path should be. I'm guessing, and although I can't see it right now... aha! I've got it. There's a steep drop of over a meter and a bunch of firewood and old brush in the way, not to mention all the leaves blocking the path from sight. I'll jump down and do some scouting, then try to find a way to get my bike down through all this shit. (PICTURES)
17:02 GMT - Thorns hurt.
17:03 GMT - There's so many trees knocked over in the path this would probably be easier on foot.
17:04 GMT - I can hear some sort of aircraft flying around overhead.
17:06 GMT - What the fuck is this? This area is more populated than it should be. (PICTURE)
17:10 GMT - I've reached the primary objective. It's pretty dried up, but the mud is deep and there is some water (no more than 10 cm at any point). I'm leaving the bike here for now. (PICTURES)
17:14 GMT - Um, fuck. This thing is much bigger than I thought. And wetter. There's ducks and frogs and other shit like that around here. A lot of them. I see a lot of deer tracks as well. There's a birdhouse. (PICTURES)
17:15 GMT - More fucking birdhouses.
17:18 GMT - The south end is too far from here for me to explore. Maybe later. I'm not checking the water depth (yet) either. For now I'm going to check the north (dry) end of this bastard.
17:20 GMT - If there is but one tick on this entire fucking planet it will be in this grass that is up to my waist.
17:21 GMT - Note to self: take up long jump in track. This will prevent some unpleasantness in the future when jumping over water between 2 muddy banks.
17:22 GMT - What the hell happened to my shoes? Hmm, there appear to be a couple of quasi-land routes out of here to the north in addition to the water route. (PICTURE)
17:23 GMT - I need more film. There appear to be some discrepancies between the map and the actual shithole. This is only the tip of the iceberg. I'll investigate more later.
17:25 GMT - I'm going to move on to the secondary objective and just see if I can find it quickly. There will be time for a more thorough probe in the future.
17:33 GMT - The "road" on this map is now about 15 cm across at the widest point. I really shouldn't have brought my bike along for this part. The path has gotten very hard to follow at a few points. Screw machetes. I need a flamethrower or air support or something.
17:35 GMT - Fuck fucking this. I'm hungry, the trail sucks, and I'm leaving.
(PICTURE)
17:48 GMT - There's a pickup truck in the middle of the road (which is the only place it'll fit) and a guy behind it cutting some of the overgrowth from the side of the road. That's good because I usually have to ride through it.
17:55 GMT - I'm back home in about an hour. That's how long it takes LensCrafters to have your glasses ready. I didn't even plan that. That was a fun mission and I look forward to doing it again. I wish I had some film to take a picture of the clothes I destroyed, or all the cuts and bug bites and random wildlife that's become attached to me. After I get some more film and fix my bike I'll go out again (with old shoes).
19:17 GMT - The Netscape spell checker says that 'shithole' should be spelled 'shit hole'. I don't care. I'm leaving it the way I had it.
